Every year in Armenia, approximately 30 children are diagnosed with Leishmaniasis, a serious disease caused by the Leishmania parasite transmitted through mosquito bites, with dogs being the source of infection. Without proper medical treatment, this illness can be fatal. The regions of Syunik, Lori, Tavush, and Yerevan are the primary centers of the disease in Armenia. Unfortunately, the life-saving medication Ambisome, crucial for treating these children, is expensive and not registered in Armenia, making it challenging for families to access and afford the necessary medicine.
Recognizing the importance of children receiving treatment at a facility experienced in handling this disease, our Fund has been supporting a partner hospital for the past two years. We provide the necessary medication to ensure that every child diagnosed with Leishmaniasis receives proper treatment, eliminating the risk to their lives.
The cost of the implemented project is approximately 5,000,000 drams.
The number of beneficiaries is 25-30 children.
The project is being implemented ongoingly.
