Anahit’s illness was discovered accidentally, as it often happens. For a while, Anahit felt weak, prompting her parents to consult a doctor to understand the cause, and they received a serious diagnosis. After receiving two courses of chemotherapy at the Yolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, there was a positive dynamic in Anahit’s health. However, this was only a temporary improvement in her health, and an urgent allogeneic bone marrow transplant was necessary for a full recovery, which was not available in Armenia at that time. The surgery had to be performed in Saint Petersburg, which required around 39,000,000 drams. With the efforts of our foundation, a public fundraiser was organized, and the necessary amount for the surgery was raised in just several days. In April 2023, Anahit successfully underwent the bone marrow transplant in Saint Petersburg.
“Anahit is a very strong person by nature and even during the most challenging phases of her illness, she was very determined, inquiring about her condition in detail from the doctors and stating that the disease would not defeat her. With her positive energy and determination, she gave us strength and never let us despair,” says Astghik, Anahit’s mother.
After overcoming difficult postoperative stages and a series of complications, Anahit returned to Armenia and is currently under the care of Armenian and Russian doctors. Despite feeling well, it will still take several years for her disease to be considered completely cured.
Anahit is a bright, sociable, and intelligent girl. She loves mathematics and aspires to become a financier. She dreams of learning to play the guitar and also hopes to master the Japanese language one day, as she loves Japanese culture. She enjoys reading, especially historical and fantasy genre books, and loves to share what she has read with everyone.
Thanks to the invaluable support of our donors, we have been able to give Anahit the opportunity to overcome her illness so that she can realize her dreams and goals.
